Oak Lodge Medical Centre in Burnt Oak Broadway has applied to open a 100 Hour Pharmacy. Some residents may welcome this proposal as 100 hour pharmacies must open for a minimum of 100 hours per week and can be required to provide additional services to those on offer at high street pharmacies.
However, some residents will be concerned that a 100 hour pharmacy could mean the closure of the small pharmacies on Watling Avenue, Burnt Oak Broadway (A5), Deansbrook Road and Station Road.
Not only would this mean the loss of a local pharmacy and all its facilities for residents, but it would also mean the loss of local jobs and yet more vacant shops – something we could do without. Extra traffic, noise and congestion are also a worry. In addition, the 100 hour pharmacy could be given permission to dispense drugs such as methadone and to be a needle exchange facility. This could have a significant impact on the security of the area.
