Hendon MP Matthew Offord has been elected as the Treasurer of the All Parliamentary Select Committee on Anti-Semitism.
Speaking after the meeting on Tuesday, Matthew said:
It is a great honour that the chairman of the Committee proposed me as Treasurer of this important body. I am looking forward to addressing issues such as the rise of extremism and anti-semitism on university campuses with the Higher Education Minister, the banning of groups such as Hizb 'ut Terrir with the Justice Minister and working to make contributions that assist my parliamentary colleagues understand how damaging anti-semitism is.
Building on the announcement contained in the Queen's Speech I will also devote efforts to seek a two state solution in Israel. While that is the ultimate objective it is necessary to secure legislation for universal jurisidction, so that the UK can play its part within the Quartet by inviting fordern politicans to engage in the peace process.
These are measures which should have been enacted by the previous Labour Government but it has taken the political will of the Conservative Party to bring about this change.""
