Matthew attended Newbury Show in Berkshire to see for himself issues relating to the countryside and animal welfare. While there are only a handful of farms in the Hendon constituency, the conservation and protection of the countryside is important to everyone as many people visit rural areas on a regular basis.
Matthew said: “While issues of the countryside do not immediately affect the constituency of Hendon, I do receive many emails about food security and animal welfare concerns. This is an area that is important to me so I welcomed the opportunity to attend the Show and also to assist in the stewarding and judging of the Dexter cows. Claire and her family have been involved in the show for many years and it was not only an enjoyable day out but also allowed me to discuss constituents’ concerns with the local MP Richard Benyon – who is also Minister for the Natural Environment and Fisheries.”
