Matthew and Help For Heroes are celebrating after Matthew won a charity bet when Premiership team Tottenham Hotspur beat Birmingham on Sunday to condemn the latter to relegation.
The bet was placed when Matthew visited his local Ladbrokes shop to learn more about the betting and gaming industry and the issues affecting the sector and its employees. At the end of the visit Ladbrokes provided a £50 free bet, half of which was staked on the Premiership Champions to beat their primary contenders at odds of 1/2. He also won £38 on a free spin on roulette. Matthew named Help For Heroes as the charity to benefit from his £75.50 winnings.
During his visit, Matthew was shown the wide variety of betting and gaming activities available, met the staff and customers and asked questions about responsible gambling procedures and the company’s community and charitable work.
Matthew commented: “While I am not normally a gambler it was very interesting the visit the shop and learn what contribution the shop makes to the local community and what the industry contributes to the national economy. I am particularly pleased that the Help the Heroes charity benefitted from my visit because of the valuable work they undertake.”
Richard Royal, Head of Public Affairs at Ladbrokes said: “We are delighted that Matthew won his bet and that the winnings will go to such a good cause. As a company, we offer a lot of fun activities that many people enjoy but it is easy to forget the important community and charitable work that we do, not to mention the employment and economic contribution that we make.”
