The UK recognises the right of British nationals with additional nationalities to serve in the legitimately recognised armed forces of the country of their other nationalities. This is equally recognised in the case of Israel.
British nationals have recently travelled to Ukraine to join Ukraine’s army in fighting Russia’s illegal invasion, and cases of such international cooperation are not uncommon.
UK dual nationals may choose to take up their right to enlist in the IDF as the IDF is a recognised, professional and accountable armed forces.
It is my deeply held view that a lasting two-state solution must be achieved through direct and thorough negotiations, which will sadly never be possible so long as Hamas governs “even a part of Gaza”, as rightly identified by the Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron. This is why the Government is absolutely right to stand behind the legitimate military personnel – including UK nationals – of our ally Israel, in carrying out the lawful objectives of the IDF.
