The Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab made clear the UK’s call for a de-escalation of the conflict when he met with Prime Minister Abiy on a visit to Ethiopia last month. The Foreign Secretary also visited Gondar, in the neighbouring Amhara region on 22 January and saw first-hand how £11m of UK Aid is supporting the delivery of aid to those affected by the conflict.
The UK continues to raise the importance of human rights with the Government of Ethiopia at the highest levels. For example, the Minister for Africa raised this most recently with the Government of Ethiopia when visiting Addis Ababa in July last year.
