Matthew attended the Olympic Torch relay on Day 68 as it passed through the Hendon constituency. Waiting with colleagues from Barnet Council at Hendon Town Hall, the Torch passed at 12:42pm and was carried by local resident Diana Gould. Known to many local people, Diana is the oldest female torchbearer of London 2012 at the age of 100. The Torch then continued on to Middlesex University where it was greeted by Professor Michael Driscoll, Vice Chancellor of the University and London Mayor Boris Johnson.
Matthew said: “I was amazed at the number of people who turned out for the torch but we were lucky with the weather and showed the torch a true Hendon welcome. The London Games look set to be a fantastic event and the second great celebration in this Jubilee year.”
