Matthew joined local residents to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Attending the street party organised by the North Road Estate Community Association in Burnt Oak, Matthew and Claire ate sandwiches and drank tea with local people. While the children enjoyed face painting and badge making, the adults started the celebrations with a Scottish Piper. Celebrations continued all afternoon in the brilliant sunshine with music and games.
Matthew said: “The Royal wedding was an extraordinary event and really promoted everything that is amazing about being British. It brought millions of people across the country together at Westminster Abbey and also in their local communities. It has been such fun to attend a street party organised by people here in this constituency and it shows what community spirit exists. I am really pleased that Barnet Council responded positively to the call by the Prime Minister and enabled parties to go ahead in the Borough by providing insurance. We really cut through the red tape to put up the bunting. Claire and I wish both their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge all the best for the future.”
